WHAT IS CBD:

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many powerful chemical compounds found primarily in the flowers and leaves of hemp, which is used to extract the plant's compound. CBD is one of the many compounds known to help the mind and body in many wonderful ways.

Is CBD Psychoactive? Will I get “high”?

No, CBD is non-psychoactive, which means this compound will not get you high.

THC, on the other hand, short for Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the compound that interacts with the CB1 receptors in our brain that causes someone to feel a “high.”

Full Spectrum CBD products contain up to 0.3% THC. However, that amount of THC is low compared to how much is required to feel any psychoactive effects unless you take an excessive amount of CBD in one sitting.

If you do not want to consume any product with THC, whether for drug testing reasons or just because you prefer not to, then Broad Spectrum CBD products are what you need.

Broad Spectrum still contains other essential cannabinoids and terpenes that work synergistically, but without any THC.

What is Full Spectrum? What is Broad Spectrum?

Full Spectrum

  • Contains up to 0.3% THC per 1,000mg of hemp extract extract.
  • It can contain anywhere from 10mg of THC to upwards of 100mg or even higher levels of THC in a bottle of tincture, depending on the amount of extract used.
  • It can, surprisingly, get you a little high if you consume a lot. However, this is uncommon as you would have to take an excessive amount of CBD where the 0.3% THC is enough to cause a psycahcive effect.

Broad Spectrum

  • It contains Non-Detectable levels of THC or also known as “THC Free.”
  • No chance of feeling any psychoactive “high” feeling
  • THC traces will not show up on drug tests
  • It is not made with CBD Isolate.
  • Still contains other cannabinoids and terpenes but without any THC.

Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum hemp extracts should contain a variety of cannabinoids, terpenes, & flavonoids. However, most products in the market only have an array of cannabinoids and no traces of terpenes & flavonoids.

The reason is that most manufacturers fail to extract & purify hemp extracts correctly. The standard processes use high heat to purify the extract from unnecessary & toxic compounds such as chlorophyll, fats, waxes, and others and at the same time completely wiping out these other essential compounds, terpenes & flavonoids.

At Colorado Botanicals, our proprietary extraction & purification process is unlike what other manufacturers in the industry do. Our technology allows us to separate these beneficial compounds without using high heat, enabling us to naturally retain terpenes & flavonoids with cannabinoids.

What Are The Benefits of CBD and Whole Plant Extracts?

CBD is one of the 100+ cannabinoids, called “phytocannabinoids,” and one of the most researched cannabinoids found in hemp. CBD has become widely popular among people around the world to add to their health routine and diet. Studies have shown that CBD may help soothe and ease the body, support everyday stresses, help achieve a sense of calm, recover from exercise-induced inflammation, support healthy sleep cycles, & may promote overall health and wellness, to name a few.

When CBD and the other compounds, including terpenes, are combined, research has shown these compounds have a better and enhanced effect on the body when they work together, rather than alone. Full and Broad Spectrum extracts are supposed to be whole-plant extracts. Hence the name “Spectrum” essentially means containing other parts of the plant than just CBD.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is a white crystalline powder that is 98-99.9% pure CBD. Other than the popularity of it being very pure, as in it’s the highest quality form of CBD, which technically isn’t, it’s commonly used due to its versatility and ease of use as an ingredient in formulations of food or cream products.

You should understand that while isolate is versatile, products based on this type of extract are not as effective as an oil containing Full or Broad Spectrum cannabinoid profiles. The single-cannabinoid profile is less effective due to the lack of cannabinoid and terpene synergies known as the Whole Plant or Entourage Effect.

What Is Entourage Effect?

Entourage Effect is another way of saying Whole Plant Benefits or Whole Plant Wellness. It’s the combining of multiple compounds, including the over 100 cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and natural plant oils working together to enhance the effects.

Cannabinoids include CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDA, etc. Terpenes such as Beta-Caryophyllene, Limonene, Humulene, Pinene, Linalool, etc.

Is Colorado Botanicals Marijuana?

No, Colorado Botanicals products are not derived from marijuana. We extract CBD from hemp because although you may extract CBD from marijuana, it contains tiny concentrations, just like how there are tiny THC concentrations in hemp.

A hemp plant can contain anywhere from 5% to upwards of 21% CBD while in a marijuana plant, it contains less than 1%.
Hypothetically speaking, instead of using 1,000 pounds of marijuana to pull out 10 grams of CBD, we use 1,000 pounds of hemp to pull out 100 grams of CBD. Notice the difference in volume? It just doesn’t make sense at all to extract CBD from marijuana.

What is the Difference Between Hemp Oil and Hemp Extract?

There has been a lot of confusion between Hemp Oil and what Hemp Extract is. When people refer to “hemp oil,” they’re actually talking about hemp seed oil which contains no cannabinoids or terpenes. CBD is extracted from the flower and leaves of hemp, where the real beneficial compounds are.

Hemp seed oil is essentially the crushing of hemp seeds and is popular for its fatty and highly processed nature. Hemp seed oil is made by cold-pressing the seeds to make a nutrient-rich Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Oil which is a great supplement to incorporate into your diet as well.

Hemp Extract, on the other hand, refers to the extracted oil from the flower and leaves of hemp. We use the term “hemp extract” because when we extract CBD, it contains more than just CBD. Our hemp extract’s main compound is CBD, but there are other cannabinoids, terpenes, & flavonoids that work synergically together to enhance the effects.

Will THC show show up on drug tests if I use your products?

No, THC will not show up on any drug tests if you’re using our products, and we guarantee that will not happen. You can always view our lab reports by going to the product page and click the down arrow on “Lab Reports.” There you will be able to access all our lab reports on every product, including the hemp extracts that we used.

How Does CBD Oil Work?

The human body is loaded with these receptors called CB1 & CB2, discovered around the 1990s by scientists that came to be known as the Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid System is a collection of cell receptors and molecules located throughout the body and is responsible for maintaining biochemical and physiological balance. Cannabinoids, such as CBD influence this balance by interacting with these receptors to regulate homeostasis. In short, CBD nourishes and enhances these receptors in your body to regulate normal functions for the body to stay balanced in good overall health.

What does it feel like when you take CBD? What to expect.

When you take CBD, it takes about 15-60 minutes to feel a difference depending on your choice of consumption. Keep in mind that this is not like THC, where you feel “high,” but you feel a sense of calm & relaxation. You may also be in the mood to lie down or take a nap if you’re by your bed, but you shouldn’t worry about taking CBD during the day because it works as an adaptogen to adapt to what you want what your body needs. It won’t necessarily make you feel tired or drowsy unless you take high doses or plan on taking a nap or going to bed soon. To learn more, click here to read our blog post on “What CBD Feels Like.”

Are There Any Side Effects When Taking CBD Oil?

CBD is generally regarded as very safe and has very minimal side effects that usually the worst is feeling drowsiness. When it comes to that, we recommend our customers cut down a little bit to find that optimal dose unless they have a serious illness.

Something to note is that adverse reactions may occur when taking CBD with certain medications such as steroids, pain killers, or any medication that gets broken down by the CYP450 Enzyme. To learn more about this, read our blog post on What Medications Are Safe To Take With CBD, and make sure to consult your doctor before taking CBD if you are taking any medications.

Does CBD interact with other medications?

Yes, CBD does. The same enzyme that breaks down CBD breaks down 75% of medications and recreational drugs that CBD gets broken down from, the cytochrome P-450 enzyme (or CYP450).
What does that mean? Taking CBD simultaneously as other drugs can affect CBD’s and those medication’s dosage and effect, sometimes enhancing the drugs/medications just like how grapefruit juice would.

To learn more about this, make sure to read our blog post on What Medications are Safe to Take with CBD and see if your medication is on the list. Make sure to always consult your doctor before taking CBD if you’re taking other medications.

What CBD Product Should I Take?

You can take CBD topically by applying it to your skin, with softgels, patches, smoking hemp, orally with tinctures (oils), or edibles such as gummies. Each has its own unique method that you can choose based on what you like. While some enjoy just taking softgels because it's easy and convenient, others prefer gummies because they enjoy snacking on something that tastes good.

How should I choose which product is right for me?

If you haven’t taken our Product Finder Quiz, which takes less than 30 seconds, we definitely recommend you give it a try as that would help you out a lot on what product best fits your needs.

We always recommend our customers start with our lowest dose, the 300mg Hemp Extract, as generally lower doses work just fine. You might even notice a lower dose works just fine for you, which then you would end up saving a lot of money instead of purchasing higher doses that come at a higher price.
However, you can get a higher dose bottle and take half a serving instead of a full. Instead of 30 servings, it will be 60 servings per bottle since you will be taking half a serving.
*However, for some people, their body naturally has a higher tolerance, requiring them to take higher doses.

  • 300mg CBD Oil contains 10mg of CBD and roughly ~13.6mg of hemp extract per serving.
  • 750mg CBD Oil contains 25mg of CBD and roughly ~31.4mg of hemp extract per serving.
  • 1,500mg CBD Oil contains 50mg of CBD and roughly ~63.2mg of hemp extract per serving.
  • 3,000mg CBD Oil contains 100mg of CBD and roughly ~

Start low and gradually increase your dose to find that optimal dose. Every 3-5 days, we recommend increasing your dose by 5-15mg to find the optimal dose. Make sure to read our CBD dosing blog called How Much CBD to Take to learn more about this topic.

If you notice that our 300mg is not enough, you should bump it up to our 750mg Hemp Extract. For our 1,500mg, we recommend that to people who have a serious condition as it’s not necessary to consume that much of our CBD for it to take effect on your body. However, there are instances where people do have a high tolerance for CBD from the start. It all depends on the person and how their body metabolizes the oil!

Should I take Full Spectrum CBD or Broad Spectrum CBD?

This all comes down to whether you don’t mind small traces of THC (<0.3%), then you can take Full Spectrum, but that doesn’t mean Broad Spectrum CBD will be a bad choice either. Both are great choices to choose from.

The most important factor is how well the company you’re purchasing from can extract all the beneficial compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes, & flavanoids) while removing all unwanted compounds that degrade the quality and effectiveness of the full potential of CBD.

What can I use CBD isolate for?

The main reasons CBD isolate is popular is for its versatility to easily mix with cream or food formulations & precise dosing of CBD. CBD isolate can also be mixed with MCT Oil like our tinctures or other substitute oils such as hemp seed oil or olive oil.

However, we recommend going with a Full Spectrum or Broad Spectrum oil since CBD is more effective when working synergically with other plant compounds.
